Yoon Sen Lee

All teachers are specially trained by Yoon Sen Lee with his methods and philosophy of teaching developed and used for nearly 40 years of his music career. Such training provided guarantee success in every student’s learning.

Biography 

Yoon Sen Lee was born in Singapore and completed his early music education receiving the diplomas of LRSM, LGSM, and ALCM. He then came to Australia in 1991 to further his music studies completing his piano performance Bachelor degree with honors and Masters of Music degree of M.Mus (perf) with distinction in performance from the University of Western Australia. Yoon Sen won first prize at the Vose Concerto Competition at the University of Western Australia and performed with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. With a scholarship and grant from the University of Western Australia, he also had extensive studies in Holland for the performance on fortepiano.

Yoon Sen is a renowned and highly regarded music educator, a senior music examiner and advisory board member for the Australian Music Examinations Board (WA). He teaches at the University of Western Australia and is also the professor of International Piano Academy in Imola, Italy. He has a music teaching career that spans over nearly 40 years and has nurtured many music students who became winners at various local and international piano competitions. These include Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, Junior E Piano Competition, Palamo Doro International Piano Competition in Italy, Young Pianist of the North Competition in UK, Young Musicians Piano Competition in Enschede, Schumann International Piano Competition in Germany, Astana International Piano Competition in Kazakhstan, San Marino International Piano Competition Many of his students have been admitted into top institutions in the USA, including New Eng- land Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School of Music, in Europe and also universities in Australia.

Yoon Sen Lee Music School was established in 2006, due to the huge success of Yoon Sen’s teaching methods and popular demand. Yoon Sen has been awarded various Best Teacher Awards at national and international levels. These include, Best Teacher award at Royal Schools Music Club 2004, Best Teacher award at Bernstein Piano Competition 2007, Teacher Certificate of Excellence award – American Association for the Development of the Gifted and Talented - Passion of Music 2009 and also in 2010, Best Teacher Award at Horowitz International Piano Competition 2013, Outstanding Teacher Award at Astana Piano Passion 2013 and Outstanding Teacher award at Sberbank debut International Music Competition and Festival 2013 and many others in recent years.

In 2011, Yoon Sen was awarded the Excellence Award in Promoting Chinese Culture through performance and education in music for the Chinese community. This was in conjunction with the Year of Chinese Culture at Australia's Award Ceremony. In the same year, Yoon Sen was nominated for the Golden Wattle Awards for the Top Ten Outstanding Australian Chinese Youth.

Yoon Sen has been an adjudicator for various music competitions locally and abroad and has also given masterclasses for students and teachers which include the West Australian Music Teachers' Association, Spring School in Melbourne, Summer School in Europe, Global Chinese Artists Association, throughout other states in Australia, in Asia including Hong Kong and China. He is also the director of the West Australian Pianists Competition over the past 15 years. As a performer, Yoon Sen performs as solo pianist and fortepianist and in duo, and with chamber orchestras around Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Yoon Sen is also a choral conductor, composer, and tenor. He has published many of his choral works and vocal solo works in various CD recordings. His vocal compositions have won various awards in the USA. 

In 2020, He was invited to join the International Online Piano Masterclass Academy. The Online Piano Masterclass Academy is born with a main purpose: to give the chance to pianists from all over the world to take lessons with some of the most universally respected pianists and professors.
